What the Bible Says About Music…
1. Mankind exists to bring God pleasure.
"Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Rev. 4:11 KJV
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.” - Colossians 1:16
2. God tells us to sing and play music to Him.
“O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day." -Psalm. 96:1-2
“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD." -Psalm 150:3-6
3. God tells us to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be ye filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”- Ephesians 5:18-19
4. All music should be played to the glory of God.
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." -1Chorinthians 10:31
5. God is not glorified by worldliness.
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." -1John 1:15-16
6. Christians are to lead lives that are separate from the world, even in music.
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." -Matthew 5:13
"As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." -1Peter 1:14-16
7. Music has a direct connection to our Spiritual life.
"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." -Ephesians 5:19
“And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him."- 1Samuel 16:23
My Stand…
I believe music is very powerful and can be used for both evil and good. As a Christian, it is my desire to stand for Biblically sound music. I stand for music that honors and glorifies God, and that which exemplifies the beauty of His holiness. I stand against all forms of Contemporary Christian Music, and against any kind of worldly stylings in traditional church music. I believe music is an offering given to the Lord to praise Him; therefore, it should be acceptable in his sight both in the nature of its giving, and in the spirit in which it is offered.
